Colonel William Pretty’s Regiment of Foot

Royalist foot serving in garrison at Bristol and likely at Raglan Castle

The Regiment marched at the end of July with Colonel Henry Tillier's to Rupert's aid in Bristol. See Henry Tillier's Regiment for Charles I's letter. William Pretty was in Bristol at the surrender and also later surrendered at Raglan Castle.

Captain Lieutenant Henry Cook claimed to have fought at Marlborough under Pretty, this is unlikely to be Wilmot's storm of Marlborough in 1642, as Pretty was a Parliamentarian then. There were two later skirmishes at Marlborough; one in June 1645 with the Royalists under Dowett, the other in January 1646 under Cansfield. Either seems possible.

Pretty at first supported the Parliamentarians but changed sides after being captured at Bristol in 1643.
