Notes
Kirke was commissioned to raise 600 dragoons in 1642, but the regiment does not appear to have materialised. He led a unit of commanded musketeers to the Storm of Cirencester in 1643. Whether this included some of his regiment of foot is uncertain. The regiment formed part of the garrison of Bridgenorth where Kirke was governor, defending the Castle. Kirke fought at Stow on the Wold in 1646 but uncertain whether his foot did also or stayed at Bridgenorth to be besieged 10 days later.

Sir Lewis Kirke had fought in Canada and served as a naval captain, along with Lord Morley, he was tried for murder of a Capt Peter Clarke in 1641.
