The humble petition of John Bretton Sheweth, that your petitioner was Captaine of a Foote Company under the Command of the Earle of Newcastle in which service hee acted for ye space of one yeare and upwards, but being convinced of his error did about the moneth of December 1644 desert his employment, and hath since lived att Bretton in ye County of Yorke, then and now being under ye power and obedience of Parliament.
