Col. John Buller’s Regiment of Dragoons

At least partially English raised dragoons serving under Inchiquin

• June: 200 dragoons ordered raised
• August: Unit in Munster

• September: Order for the unit to be made up to a regiment of five to six hundred if thought fit.¹⁾

• Regiment serving with Inchiquin for the Royalists

• January: Regiment on board ship to be sent to the Scilly Isles²⁾
• April to May: Parliamentarians attack and capture the Scilly Isles

The unit's origins lie in two troops of Dragoon raised for Major General Jephson whilst he was raising his horse regiment in England in 1646, but the unit always seems to have been under the command of Col. Buller.

Having arived in Ireland in August 1646 the unit was described as needing “clothes, arms, saddles and bridles”.³⁾ The lack of horse gear does not seem to have been made up until at least the following April.⁴⁾
