Troop of horse raised in England for service in Munster in 1642, later expanded to a full regiment

On arrival in Ireland the English horses fell victim to some form of disease, with at least 150 of 340 dying. These had to be replaced with “such garrans {ponies] as this country affords” while an officer was sent back to england to raise more.³⁾
