Notes
Stewart’s regiment were destroyed at Dunbar, but had left a detachment of one company at Edinburgh Castle, that was besieged until the December.
Coats, Flags and Equipment
Flags of the regiment were captured at Dunbar. The Colonel’s is white with a large three-towered castle on a rock, the motto COVANANT FOR RELIGION KING AND KINGDOMES surrounded by a wreath, with the crest of an arm and sword. The Lt Col’s was red with a similar castle , motto and wreath, but no rock and a crest of a quill and bible with the motto EXVRGO. One was plain red. The remainder had a red field, white saltire in a canton and some had additional yellow stars, with the inscription COVENANT FOR RELIGION KING AND KINGDOMES.1)
