Notes
Coats, Flags and Equipment
Flags of the regiment are identified from those captured at Preston. As usual for Scots foot regiments, the Colonel's company carried a white flag while other companies carried coloured flags. The white flag had a silver bear’s head crest, crowned and with the motto TREW TO THE END and a scroll that appears damaged. Flags of the other companies were green with a white saltire, one of which contained the number ‘4’ in black, probably the 4th captain’s distinction. The inscription was Couanant for Religion King and Kingdomes1)
