- February: Moray assigned 1500 recruits from Elgin, Nairn & Inverness
- Intended for service in England, instead they remain in Scotland
- September: Detachment in garrison at Stirling
- December: Under Baillie's command but transferred to Argyll's force at Dumbarton

- February: Battle of Inverlochy
- April: Stormed at Dundee??
- May to July: Serving with Baillie
- July: Battle of Alford
- August: The regiment is described as 'broken' after Alford but is retained in service
- Autumn: In garrison at Perth

- February: Disbanded, except for one company sent to join The General of Artillery’s Regiment of Foot in the Scots New Model Army
1648
- May: Moray commissioned colonel for Moray, Nairn and Inverness and is appointed Governor of Inverness
- May: 200 of Moray's foot to garrison Inverness
- September: Likely disbanded

Histories of both Moray's and Lt Col Cockburn's foot are shown in Edward M. Furgol’s A Regimental History of the Covenanting Armies 1639-1651 Edinburgh, 1990. ISBN 0 85976 194 0. Reid identifies Cockburn as belonging to Moray's regiment, they formed part of the force of Highland levies led to Inverlochy by the Earl of Seaforth and were quickly routed during the battle.
