- October: Lt Col Melville ordered to levy dragoons from Inverness, Ross, Cromarty, Sutherland and Caithness
- December: Melville replaced by Colonel James Bremner
- December: Bremner allocated Orkney men and Capt Wardlaw's dragoons from Moray and Nairn
