The Suffolk Trained Bands of 1638 consisted of 4,148 men armed with 2,359 muskets and 1,789 corslets (body armour, signifying pikemen). They also mustered a notable mounted force of 300 cuirassiers.
In 1639 Trained Band men were selected for service in the First Bishops' war, in Sir Simon Harcourt’s Regiment of Foot.
