Originally raised in Somerset, they went on to become Prince Rupert’s Own Regiment of Foot, fighting as part of the Oxford Army and on York March

Notes
Coats, Flags and Equipment
Clad in suits of coats, breeches and montero hats in July 1643 along with the other Royalist foot regiments then in Oxford, they were noted as wearing blue coats in 1644 and 1645 2). In 1645, under Prince Rupert, the regiment carried black, white and blue-grey flags of a unique design (Illustration 1), these were sketched by Symonds before Naseby and illustrated by Turmile afterwards, there are differences in the depictions, discussed by Peachey & Prince 3).

Sir Thomas Lunsford
Sir Thomas Lunsford was Lieutenant of the Tower of London in the run-up to Civil War and was taken prisoner at Edgehill.
Colonel Henry Lunsford
Brother of Sir Thomas, he took over the regiment after Edgehill but was killed at the Storm of Bristol.
Prince Rupert
Lieutenant Colonel John Russell
John Russell, later commanded a regiment of Charles II's foot guards.
