Notable Officers
Humphrey Mackworth
Humphrey Mackworth Genealogy link was appointed governor of Shrewsbury from 1645 and likely raised his regiment thereabouts. He died in 1654 and was, at first, buried in Westminster Abbey until his remains were ejected by the order of Charles II.
Anthony Hungerford
Anthony Hungerford previously served as a Captain in the Earl of Denbigh’s Regiment of Foot and as governor of Stoke-on-Tern in Shropshire. Exactly when he transferred to Mackworth's command is currently unclear to me. He garrisoned Stokesay Castle from autumn 1645 and in summer 1646 was promoted Major of Mackworth's 'standing companies'. In 1647 he raised Colonel Anthony Hungerford’s Regiment of Foot from disbanded men in Shropshire and led them in Ireland.
