Notes
A history of the regiment is given in The Regimental History of Cromwell's Army by Sir Charles Firth and Godfrey Davies, Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1940
The regiment was raised in England in 1646 by Roger Fenwick, refused entry to Dublin, they landed instead at Lecale, moving to garrison Trim the next spring. Besieged at Trim by Preston, they joined Michael Jones’ force, defeating Preston at Dungan’s Hill. In 1648 they garrisoned Kildare and in 1650 were sent to reinforce Sir Charles Coote in Ulster, fighting at Scarrifhollis where Fenwick was mortally wounded in the initial exchange of musketry. Robert Barrow took over at Colonel and the regiment was disbanded in 1653.
