Forbes is said to have led of 200 men at Alford.
William Forbes, of Skellater, baptized 15th October 1615, joined the marquis of Huntly, on the king’s side, with the warriors of Strathdon. These were the only Forbeses who were not Covenanters, and as they were with the Gordons, (several of the Forbeses holding feudally of the marquis of Huntly,) both in the civil war and in the revolutionary campaign of 1689, they were called the Gordon-Forbeses.
